About McDonough First UMC
Our Mission Statement
Our God-sized dream is connecting to Christ's love through active caring for our community.
Our Core Beliefs
God's Word - Prayer - Worship
The mission statement of the United Methodist Church is simply stated with profound implications: "The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world." (The 2012 Book of Discipline, p.91)
When it comes to core beliefs of United Methodists, author Mack Stokes put it best in his book, "Major United Methodist Beliefs": "Scripture is the primary source and criterion for Christian doctrine. We believe in the Bible, in God, in Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit, in people, in the cross, in the forgiveness of sins, in victory through disciplined living, in the centrality of love, in conversion, assurance, and scriptural holiness, in the church, in the Kingdom of God, and in the life everlasting."
All are invited to join us in the journey to become like Christ. All are welcome to further explore these concepts with us, in worship and practice.

What is Methodism?
The United Methodist Church emphasizes connectionalism, a system of shared mission, governance, and ministry that links all its churches and members. Originating with John Wesley's organized approach, this structure enables communication, accountability, and collaborative action. United Methodists work together through clergy appointments, shared mission efforts, and collective giving—extending their reach not only within the denomination but also through partnerships with other churches. This methodical, organized approach helps the church effectively live out its mission of spreading Scriptural Holiness.
